










Sinterklaas is a legendary figure based on Saint Nicholas, considered the patron saint of children. The festivities begin in mid-November with Sinterklaas arriving, supposedly from Spain, by steamboat at a designated seaside town. Upon arrival, he parades through the streets, riding his horse and welcomed by cheering children who sing traditional Sinterklaas songs. His Zwarte Piet assistants throw candy and small cookies into the crowd during the parade. This event is broadcast live on national television in the Netherlands and Belgium.
